About the Principal & Assistant Principal,

Diane Chamberlain is the Principal at Fort River Elementary School.  Before joining the Fort River faculty in 2013, Diane served Amherst as the Assistant Principal for Amherst Regional High School, Amherst Regional Middle School, and the Coordinator of South Amherst Campus.  Diane gained her experience in the classroom in San Francisco and South San Francisco at the middle school level as a Special Education co-teacher and self-contained classroom teacher.  Her administrative work began in the San Francisco Unified School District before moving to Amherst in 2004.  She has a Master's Degree in Special Education from San Francisco State University, and graduated from and Educational Leadership and Administration Program through St. Mary's College of California.

Kristine Griswold is the Interim Assistant Principal for Fort River Elementary School.  Kris earned her Master’s Degree in Education through the Collaborative Teacher Education Program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2007.  She has taught at Fort River since 2007, teaching first grade for one year and third grade for eight years.  Kris has always appreciated working with students and families from diverse backgrounds and strongly believes in inclusive education.  Prior to receiving her Master’s degree in Education, Kris substitute taught for Amherst and Pelham.  She was also very active as a volunteer at Pelham School, where her three children attended elementary school.  Kris continues to live in Pelham with her husband, Dan.
